Athletic Physicals
Please remember that students must have a completed physical form on file in the athletic office prior to trying out, practicing or competing on a DKS athletic team. Effective this year, the physical form must also be signed by the parent or guardian (if under 18 years old) to give consent for DKS to release information to the MHSAA that is otherwise protected by FERPA and HIPPA laws. 

Please note that the physical must be dated on or after April 15th, 2008 in order to be valid for the 2008-09 school year.

KVA Set to Expand in 2008-09
The Kalamazoo Valley Association will add two new members beginning with the 2008-09 school year. Schoolcraft and Constantine were both approved at ameeting held on September 20th, 2007. The addition leaves the KVA with ten schools. Both schools are former members of the St. Joe Valley Conference and will be great additions to the KVA in terms of competition, sportsmanship, and academic reputation. Please join us in welcoming both schools!

David Roberts Commits to Play College Soccer
David Roberts, a senior at Delton Kellogg, has made a verbal commitment to Ohio Northern University to play soccer for the fall 2008 season. Ohio Northern University is a Division III school which competes in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Roberts has had an outstanding three-sport prep career that included several All-KVA honors, two Battle Creek Enquirer All-Area soccer selections, and a third team All-State soccer selection in 2007. He also holds the school record for goals in a season and is a member of the varsity basketball and track and field teams. David recently qualified for the state finals in track.

Blacken Selected to Basketball All-Star Game
Nick Blacken was recently selected by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) to compete in the 2008 Class A/B All-Star Game. The game will be held on August 2nd at 5:00 p.m. at Brighton High School and will feature several players who have signed Division I basketball scholarships with top colleges across the country.

During his senior season, Nick broke school records for 3-point field goals made in a game and 3-point field goals attempted in a game. He finished his career ranked second in school history for steals in a season, steals in a career, free throws made in a game, free throws made in a season, and free throws attempted in a season. Nick also led the 2007-08 team in scoring, assists, and steals.

Nick's honors include being named Team MVP for three seasons, All-KVA for two seasons, and All-Area Battle Creek Enquirer, All-County, First Team All-State (BCAM), and Honorable Mention All-State (AP) during his senior year.

Nick is the first student athlete from Delton-Kellogg to be selected for the All-Star Game.

Panther Teams Enjoy Successful Weekend
The Panther athletic teams continued with their successful seasons this past weekend.

The varsity baseball team won the Harper Creek Wooden Bat Tournament by defeating Pennfield in the first round, then knocking off the host Harper Creek in the championship game. Delton rallied from a one-run deficit in the bottom of the 7th inning to pull out a narrow 8-7 victory.

The junior varsity baseball team brought home the championship trophy from the Bangor Invitational for the second consecutive season. Delton defeated Bangor in the first game, then rolled over Gull Lake to cap off the afternoon.

The varsity girls' track team came out on top at the 16-team Gobles Invitational on Friday night. The varsity boys' track team also brought home a 3rd place plaque. The 400 relay team of Chelsea VanderWoude, Katie Searles, Hannah Williams, and Rachael Williams broke the school record and won the event for D-K.
 
Girls Basketball Team Earns Academic Honor
The varsity girls basketball team was recently honored by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan for excelling in the classroom. The Panthers earned Honorable Mention Academic All-State after compiling a cumulative grade point average of 3.5738. Team members were: Paige Green, Sarah Holroyd, Angela Kennedy, Justine McCowan, Autumn Polley, Adrienne Schroeder, Kali Tobias, Rachael Williams, and Hannah Williams. The team was coached by Rick Williams.

Middle School Track Enjoying Success
On top of the middle school track team's 2nd place finishes out of twelve teams at the D-K Invitational last weekend, several team members have broken school records already this season. Record breakers are as follows:

Blacken Earns All-State Status
Nick Blacken, a senior at DKS, was recently named Class B Honorable Mention All-State for his performance on the basketball court this season. This is the first time in several years that a Panther basketball player has been honored at the state level. Great job, Nick!
 
Loveland Brothers Place at State Finals
Matt and Mark Loveland capped off their outstanding wrestling seasons by earning All-State status at the MHSAA Individual Finals this weekend in Auburn Hills. Matt improved on last season's 8th place finish by taking 3rd place at 112 pounds, and Mark finished in 6th place in his first trip to the finals. Both wrestlers picked up their 100th win this year and hope to be back in the finals next year as seniors!

Rachael Williams Named to All-KVA Girls Basketball Team
Congratulations to Rachael Williams on being selected to the All-KVA First Team for girls basketball. Rachael is a senior and plans to attend Northern Michigan University next year and has earned a scholarship for track and field scholarship. Great job, Rachael!
 
Wrestlers Continue to Earn Honors 
Several Delton Kellogg wrestlers were selected to the All-Barry County teams for their performances this season. Mark Loveland, Matt Loveland, and Quinn DeBolt earned first-team status, while Johnny Wood and Martin Workman were named to the second-team. Congratulations, wrestlers!
 
Boys Basketball Wins KVA Sportsmanship Award
The post-season KVA All-Conference meeting for boys basketball was held on Saturday morning. The Panthers were well-represented as they earned two first-team selections and two honorable mention members. Nick Blacken and Tony Reeves were named to the first-team, and David Roberts and Brian Diaz were voted to the honorable mention team by the league coaches.

Also, the KVA basketball coaches nominated the Panthers for the KVA Sportsmanship Award. This is the fifth time the boys basketball team has earned this award in the past six seasons.
 
Loveland Brothers Advance to State Finals; Mark Earns 100th Career Victory 
Brothers Mark and Matt Loveland continued their success on the wrestling mat on Saturday at the MHSAA Individual Regionals at Pennfield High School. Mark won the regional championship at 103 pounds and Matt finished in 3rd place at 112 pounds. Both will advance to the state finals on March 6th-8th at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Mark also recorded his 100th career victory and improved his record to 51-1 on the season. Great job, guys!
 
Wrestlers Win District Championship; Quinn DeBolt Earns 100th Victory 
The Panther wrestling team continued their outstanding season on Wednesday night by winning the MHSAA District Championship. D-K defeated Centreville in the first round by a score of 71-6, then shutout Parchment in the finals, 80-0. The team is now 28-1 on the season. Quinn DeBolt added to the night by racking up his 100th career victory.

The Panthers advance to the Regional meet on Wednesday, February 20th at 6:00 AT DELTON KELLOGG and will wrestle the winner of the Hillsdale district in the first round. Come out and support your team!

Please remember that since the Regional meet is part of the state tournament, we are not able to accept passes of any type. All tickets are $5.00 at the door.
 
Panthers Capture KVA Wrestling Championship
Congratulations to the Panther wrestling team for capturing their 5th consecutive KVA championship. The wrestlers finished 5-0 in league dual meets and then won the KVA Tournament on Saturday with 202.5 points. The second place team finished with 161 points.

Future Looks Bright for DKS Boys Basketball
The 8th grade boys basketball teams capped their seasons in impressive fashion at the KVA tournaments. The 8th grade 'B' team captured the KVA championship and the 8th grade 'A' team finished in second place. The 'B' team is coached by Kent Enyart and Jim Sprague. The 'A' team is coached by Jim Hogoboom. Great job, guys!
  
Matt Loveland Earns 100th Win; Panthers Sweep KVA Tri-Meet
Matt Loveland earned his 100th career wrestling victory on Wednesday, January 23rd as he helped lead the Panthers to two KVA triumphs. D-K defeated Parchment (75-6) and Galesburg-Augusta (81-0) to improve to 24-1 on the season and 4-0 in the KVA.
   
Panthers Wrestling Continues Success
The Panther varsity wrestlers won the Berrien Springs Invitational on Saturday. All fourteen of our varsity wrestlers placed in the meet. Mark Loveland, Matt Loveland, and Steven Romero won gold medals; Johnny Wood, Ray Lindsey, Quinn DeBolt, and John Hess won silver medals; and Steve Ross, Jeff Town, Mike DeWaters, Montana Otis, Martin Workman, Anthony Riley, and Octavio Romero also placed for the Panthers.

Also, the varsity 'B' team finished in 2nd place at the Byron Center Invitational on Saturday. Dylan Leinaar, Jeff Bissett, Harley Miller, Trevor Curtice, David Dempsey, and Jordan Smith all medaled for D-K.
 
Hall of Fame Night Scheduled for February 1st
The annual Delton Kellogg Athletic Hall of Fame Night will be held on Friday, February 1st at the varsity girls basketball game against Pennfield. This year's honoree is Craig Haven, a 1987 graduate of DKS and a member of the wrestling and football teams. Come out and support your Panthers as we recognize Delton's finest! Panthers Win D-K Invitational; Riley Earns 100th Career Victory
The Panthers wrestlers improved on their record by winning the D-K Invitational on January 5th. In defeating Coldwater, West Ottawa, Paw Paw, Battle Creek Central, and Greenville, the team went undefeated and improved their overall record to 21-1. Matt Loveland, Mark Loveland, Steve Romero, and Johnny Wood all went 5-0, and Anthony Riley earned his 100th career victory in helping the Panthers to the championship.
 
Wrestling Team Captures Lawton Invitational
The Panther wrestling team won the Lawton Invitational on Saturday, December 1st. The team defeated Lawton, Schoolcraft, Hartford, River Valley, and Covert on their way to a perfect 5-0 record. Earning medals for the Panthers were: Mark Loveland , Dylan Leinaar, Matt Loveland, Steve Ross, Johnie Wood, Ray Lindsey, Quinn DeBolt, Martin Workman, Anthony Riley, Steve Romero, John Hess and Octavio Romero. 
 
Terin Norris Earns All-State Honors
Sophomore Terin Norris added to her post-season honors by earning All-State Honorable Mention status through the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association. Terin, a two-year varsity player, was also selected as All-Barry County, All-Area Battle Creek Enquirer, All-Region, and All-KVA this season. Keep up the great work, Terin!
 
David Roberts Earns All-State Honors
Senior David Roberts has been selected First Team All-Region and Third Team All-State for his performance on the soccer field this season. A team captain, David also was selected to the All-Barry County, All-Area Battle Creek Enquirer, All-District, and All-KVA teams this year. He also broke the school scoring record this season with 26 goals. Great job, David!
 
Janis Dinda Inducted Into KVA Hall of Fame
Janis Dinda, a teacher at DKHS, has been inducted into the KVA Athletic Hall of Fame. Ms. Dinda has been actively involved in Panther and KVA athletics for the past 22 years. During this time, she has served as the bookkeeper for both boys and girls varsity basketball, operates the long jump at all home track meets, controls the scoreboard for home varsity football games, and tabulates scoring at home cross country meets. In 20 years as the boys basketball bookkeeper, Janis has yet to miss a game. In addition to her commitment to Panther athletics, Ms. Dinda serves as the Student Council advisor at DKHS and organizes a trip to France for her students.
 
Panther Earns Baseball Scholarship
Steven Scoby has signed a National Letter of Intent to play NCAA Division I baseball at Valparaiso University. Steven is a four-year varsity baseball player at Delton-Kellogg and plays for the Kalamazoo Maroons during the summer. He also participates in basketball and football at DKHS. Congratulations, Steven!
  
JV Football Finishes Undefeated Season

Athletic Season Passes on Sale
Athletic passes are on sale in the high school office. Costs are as follows: $125.00 - full year family pass; $65.00 - season family pass; $35.00 - adult season pass; $65.00 - full year adult pass; $25.00 - season student pass; $45.00 - full year student pass. Please note that the family pass is for a family of two adults and all students kindergarten through college sophomore. These passes are accepted at all home athletic events, excluding MHSAA post-season tournaments.
 
 
   
 

Ben Farkas

Athletic Director

Mr. Farkas is currently in his third year as the Athletic Director/Assistant Principal at Delton Kellogg High School.

 

Prior to coming to Delton Kellogg, Ben was the Athletic Director/Assistant Principal at Bellevue High School for two years. He also coached middle school track and was a part-time football coach.

 

After graduating from Bellevue High School, Mr. Farkas attended Kalamazoo College and earned a B.A. in Economics and Business. He played wide receiver on the football team for four years and lettered in baseball during his freshman season. He went on to earn a M.A. in Physical Education with emphasis in Athletic Administration from Western Michigan University.

 

During his time at WMU, Mr. Farkas was a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, and taught weight training and healthy lifestyle classes at the university. He also worked for Xceleration, a speed and agility training company that conducts clinics at high schools and training centers throughout the state of Michigan.

 

Ben has completed Level 1 of the MHSAA Coaches Advancement Program and will take the Certified Athletic Administrator exam through the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (MIAAA) in March. He will also present on the topic of dual sport athletes at the MIAAA Conference this year.

The 2008-09 school year marks Mrs. Reed's eleventh year as the Athletic Secretary at Delton Kellogg and her third as the Middle School Athletic Coordinator.

 

During her time at DKS, Beckie has coached several sports, including seven years of middle school volleyball, two seasons of junior varsity softball, and one season as the 7th grade cheerleading coach. Mrs. Reed is also the coach of the 7th grade 'A' volleyball team. She also organizes the summer workshop for the Michigan Athletic Secretaries that is held in conjunction with the summer conference for the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (MIAAA). Beckie has been honored by the MIAAA for five year of dedicated service to the organization and to high school athletics in general. In addition, Beckie has completed Level 1 and Level 2 of the MHSAA Coaches Advancement Program.

 

Beckie is a graduate of Delton Kellogg Schools and is a Junior at Western Michigan University, where she is working on a secondary education certification in mathematics and biology. She participated in basketball, volleyball and softball at the high school level and currently participates in the Delton modified-pitch softball league.
