His coaching experience also includes 12 seasons as middle school boys and girls basketball coach, seven seasons as the head boys and girls cross country coach, two years as boys 9th grade basketball coach, one season as varsity boys soccer coach, and an additional season as the 9th grade football coach.

Jim's coaching accolodes include one regional championship (1994), eight KVA championships, three top-10 team finishes at the state finals, and two KVA Sportsmanship awards. His teams have won 85% of league meets, over 190 dual meets, and 85 trophies. Individually, Coach Gibson's athletes have earned medals at the state meet in 12 of 17 events and have medaled in all events at the regional and league levels.

In 1994, Coach Gibson was selected as the State Coach of the Year by the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association (MITCA) and has been nominated for the award on two other occasions. He was also been named Regional Coach of the Year in 1993, '94, and '95.

Jim graduated from Aquinas College with a B.S. in Physical Education and was a member of the track and field team. He was an All-American in the 60-meter dash, held four school records, and was invited to try out for the 1980 Olympics.

Coach Williams has served as the assistant womens track coach for the past 19 seasons and has been the varsity girls basketball coach since 2001. He has also coached varsity baseball, varsity football, and varsity boys basketball. In total, Rick has 58 seasons of coaching experience to his credit.

After a high school career in which he earned 10 varsity letters (football, baseball, basketball, golf, and track), Coach Williams attended KVCC and played one season of baseball. He earned a B.A. from WMU with a major in Social Studies and minors in Earth Science, English, and Coaching. He then went on to complete a Master's degree in Secondary Counseling.

Coach Williams has been a part of six KVA track championship teams (1993, '94, '95, '02, '03, and '04), one regional championship (1995), and has coached two individual state championships. During his tenure as varsity girls basketball coach, Rick's teams have earned the KVA Sportsmanship Award on four separate occasions (2001, '03, '04, and '05) and have also been recognized as Honorable Mention Academic All-State. In winning the KVA title in 2005, the Panthers ended a 17-year drought without a championship. In March, 2007, Coach Williams completed Level 1 of the MHSAA Coaches Advancement Program.

Rick is currently a counselor at DKHS, a position which he has held for ten years. He has also taught science and social studies for 17 years. Rick resides in Delton with his wife and has four children - two of which have graduated from DKS and two daughters that currently attend DKHS.
